Reiki for Animals

Don't forget Reiki for your pets too!

Reiki works great with animals for the very same reasons it works well on us. All pet owners will be already aware that animals respond to our loving touch and attention. Reiki is another way to help your animals feel better. It is ideal because it is gentle, non-invasive and doesn't necessarily require physical contact so is suitable for wild as well as domesticated. It doesn't cause stress, discomfort, or pain, and yet yields powerful results. Animals respond intuitively to Reiki's power to support the healing of emotional, behavioural, and physical illnesses and injuries.

For animals that are healthy, Reiki helps to maintain their health, enhances relaxation and provides an emotional sense of peace and contentment.

For animals who are ill, Reiki is a wonderful healing method as well as a safe complement to Western Medicine, Chinese Medicine, homeopathy, flower essences, and all other forms of healing.

For example, Reiki can reduce the side effects of chemotherapy, support an acupuncture treatment, and complement the effects of flower essences.

For dying animals, Reiki is a powerful yet gentle way to provide comfort, relief from pain, fear, and anxiety, and to ease the transition to death. Reiki is also a wonderful way to support a dying animal's family, don’t forget just like us, animals have a mind, body and soul! Even if you don’t know what the problem is you can use Reiki to help as animals can use loving energy after they’ve experienced any type of trauma such as abuse, loss or simply a house move or if they seem to exhibit depression or other behavioural disorders that simply cannot be specified or diagnosed.

Warning: A veterinarian should always be consulted for any medical conditions. Complementary therapies are not a substitute for, but work in conjunction with conventional medicines and medical professionals

Indian Head Massage

The practice of Champissage is a very old and time-tested method that is believed to have begun in India about four thousand years ago. When this useful therapy was gradually passed on to the other regions of the world, especially the West by Narendra Mehta in the 1970’s, it came to be known as Indian Head Massage (or IHM in abbreviated form).

IHM - is an efficient form of massage therapy based on the ancient Ayurvedic healing systems. This alternative therapeutic practice employs an assortment of massage techniques giving a thorough massage of your head/scalp, face, shoulders, neck and upper back areas and NOT just the head as the name would suggest. Indian Head Massage involves using a firm and gentle rhythm to help get rid of knots in the muscles and relieve uncomfortable tension. It works to restore balance and harmony by working on the higher three charkas. As in the original practice, oils can be used but most people prefer not to have them as it leaves the hair very oily and often people are going back to the office or going out. However, if the client would like oils as in the original practice, this can be incorporated.

IHM is a clothed therapy that you can conveniently be given anywhere, even at your workplace.

Indian Head Massage works on areas affected by mental and emotional stress and can bring immediate relief. It benefits the mind, body and spirit, promoting not only physical but psychological wellbeing by promoting relaxation, improved sleep pattern, reducing overall stress, anxiety and edginess. It works great on the relief of tension, headaches, neck and back pain, sinusitis and eye strain.

Stimulating lymphatic drainage thus, helping to remove toxins and boost the immune system, it also provides extra oxygen for the brain and increases mental clarity. It improves hair growth and condition (especially when using oils).

Indian Head Massage reaches all energy centres where tension accumulates

Reflexology

Reflexology is a theory and a therapy that uses the feet to treat the whole body. Its main principle is that by massaging and applying pressure to parts of the feet known as reflex areas, other corresponding and connected areas of the body will feel the benefit. In reflexology, the feet and hands are like mini-maps of the body’s anatomy so any body system can be accessed and stimulated by massaging the corresponding area of the foot or hand. The aim is to stimulate the body’s own healing processes in order to keep it in homeostasis i.e. balanced, state. It is a holistic therapy which means that is works on the principle that the whole person must be treated: if one area of the body is out of balance then other areas will be. It encourages both relaxation and stimulation: the first helps the body rebuild its energy resources and recover from illness and disease whereas the second helps activate the circulation and the nervous system, making both more efficient and thus benefiting the body as a whole.

Reflexology is not a foot massage. It does use massage techniques but, unlike massage, reflexology works with the feet as anatomical ’maps’ of the whole body. By applying pressure to one part of the foot, the reflexologist aims to benefit not only the feet but also the rest of the body. The reflexologist can detect imbalances in the body by working on the feet and then works on problem areas accordingly to help aid correct them. However, it is not a cure, more of a helping hand for the body’s self-healing processes. Reflexology helps balance the systems of the body helping them to work more efficiently which, in turn, speeds up the natural healing processes.

Reflexology has many amazing benefits but here are just a few that it is popular for. It relieves stress and tension and has a deeply relaxing effect: 75% of disease is estimated to relate to stress. In order to function, the body needs energy in the form of oxygen and nutrients which are circulated in the blood, as reflexology improves blood circulation, it thus increases the efficiency of all organs and cells and it also improves waste removal and elimination. It helps release trapped nervous energy and improves neural efficiency; approximately 7000 nerves are stimulated by reflexology massage. As the feet are maps of the body, the whole person and all systems are treated and not just the feet, all while the client remains fully clothed, meaning it can be carried out in almost any environment. It benefits the mind, body and spirit, promoting not only physical but psychological wellbeing. Reflexology is often recommended for elderly or immobile clients and is also often recommended as part of a palliative care system.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Lymphatic drainage massage is a system of massage techniques developed in the 1930’s. It stimulates the functions of the body’s secondary circulation, the lymphatic system, encouraging the removal and filtering of waste, toxins and excess fluids from cells as well as boosting the body’s natural immunity. This therapy is also known as Manual Lymphatic Drainage or MLD. It is a gentle, deeply relaxing and rhythmic massage that helps to reduce water retention, filter excess fluid from the lymph nodes and boost your immune system. The practitioner uses a range of specialised and gently pumping techniques to move the skin in the direction of the lymph flow.

Lymphatic drainage massage helps to boost the functions of the lymphatic system. It thus improves the circulation of lymph which helps fluid drainage from cells and the elimination of waste, improves the production and distribution of antibodies and lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell) thus boosting the immunity from disease and stimulates the lymphatic systems filtering process thus helping remove toxins and bacteria from the body. It also works on the autonomic nervous system, helping to slow the sympathetic nerves (which enable activity) and stimulate the parasympathetic nerves (which enable relaxation), thus aiding relaxation and reducing stress.

The benefits of Lymphatic Drainage can be considerable and relevant in today's environment. Stress and deficient immune systems can make people susceptible to disease and infections. The lymphatic system plays a vital role in the body by regulating the immune system. When the lymphatic system is blocked, lymphatic fluid can build up and stagnate; thus causing the system to become toxic. It is used to clear congestion, waste and fluid from the system, thus is indicated to treat a wide range of conditions such as. It aids with acne, allergies, cellulite and excess weight. It relieves constipation and other digestive disorders. It is widely popular for fluid retention, for e.g. puffy ankles, legs, eyes, bloating, oedema and it is a must for anyone that gets recurring colds, flu, ear or chest infections.

On-Site Massage & Stress Management

Also known as chair massage or corporate massage, on-site massage is administered while the client is fully clothed and seated. It is a holistic therapy because it treats the whole person. It is useful for treating stress and stress-related conditions because it helps to relax the body and reduce the effects of stress.

75% of all disease is estimated to be stress related and while we cannot totally eliminate stress from our lives it is therefore vital that we are able to recognise the signs of stress in order to be able to get treatment and learn ways to resolve and / or manage the stress in our lives.

On-Site Massage relieves stress and tension and has deeply relaxing effects, inducing calm and relaxing all the systems of the body, thus helping with stress related conditions such as insomnia, headaches, backache and digestive upsets etc. Onsite massage is very popular in corporate industry, due to the fact it has all the benefits of regular massage but because of the use of a specialised chair and the fact the client remains fully clothed means that a lot of on-site massage can be carried out right in the office / business of the client and hence where it got the name Corporate Massage.

Stone Therapy Massage

Stone therapy massage combines the use of hot and cold stones with traditional Swedish massage techniques to bring about deep relaxation and homeostasis on a physical, psychological and spiritual level. Stone therapy massage or Geothermotherapy is really an extension of manual massage. This modern day treatment draws upon the ancient healing arts and traditions to deliver a deep massage. The stones are also placed in strategic positions on top and beneath the body, to create a therapeutic and holistic effect. This will benefit both the area concerned and the person in general. In addition to the stones, crystals may also be incorporated to the treatment as they have a balancing effect upon the client, helping to achieve total homeostasis.

One stroke with a hot basalt stone is thought to be the equivalent to ten manual massage strokes, so results are achieved more quickly and efficiently. The stones allow for deeper penetration of pressure and work upon an area. Heat from the stones permeates the body causing vasodilatation, bringing more oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and speeding up the removal of carbon dioxide and waste. Lactic acid elimination is also increased, benefiting tired aching muscles. The stones themselves also absorb negative energies and also work on the chakras of the client. With stone therapy cold stones can also be used for certain conditions.

Space Clearing

Space clearing is a remarkable way of clearing and revitalizing energies in buildings and on land. It's as essential to the energy maintenance of a place as physical cleaning is to the physical maintenance. Very few western buildings are so well designed that there are no areas where energy gets stuck. Many people now choose to make space clearing part of their regular building maintenance programme so that their space is energetically as well as physically clean and clear.

Energetically, everything that ever happens in a building goes out in ripples like the effect of a stone being dropped in a pond. It is recorded in the walls, floor, ceiling, furniture, and other objects in the place. It gets astrally imprinted into the very fabric of the structure. Repetitive actions and behaviors are deeply imprinted, and events accompanied by strong emotions or trauma are the most strongly imprinted of all. If you've ever had the experience of walking into a room after there has just been an argument, you know that you can literally feel it hanging in the air. People sometimes say, 'You could have cut the air with a knife! meaning that the atmosphere was so dense it was as if the argument were physically tangible. Everyone also creates a certain amount of etheric debris on a daily basis, which leaves a stagnant residue in their home in the same way as everyday living creates cleaning and tidying on a physical level.

Space clearing is a remarkable way of cleansing the energy of your space and will help in so many ways. This can be done on moving into a new home, after de-cluttering, after an illness or bereavement, after a divorce or relationship break-up or for new beginnings.

They are then absorbed into the body by various means, usually the most enjoyable and relaxing being massage. In this way an aromatherapist can help in treating both medical and non-medical conditions. For centuries, mankind has used plants; many of them fragrant, in the treatment of common ailments, as well as in cosmetics and around the home and aromatherapy can be seen as a natural extension of these practices. Aromatherapy can help relax, uplift, revitalise or restore the body, mind and spirit depending on the oil used and is a natural aid in maintaining the body's own sense of balance and well-being, at the same time working on mood enhancement and ambience. It's hard to imagine a more enjoyable health treatment than a deep, relaxing massage accompanied by the aura and aroma of wonderful essential oils.

Massage

Massage therapy is the manipulation of soft tissues of the body, particularly muscles. It can be used for relaxation, stimulation or rehabilitation of the whole body or part of it. Touch is the core ingredient of massage therapy. The therapist uses specific techniques for massage in conjunction with the right amount of pressure to locate areas of tension and other soft-tissue problems using a variety of moves. The basic goal of massage therapy is to help the body heal itself and to increase health and well-being.

When muscles are overworked, waste products such as lactic acid can accumulate in the muscle, causing soreness, stiffness, and even muscle spasm. Massage improves circulation, which increases blood flow, bringing fresh oxygen to body tissues. This can assist the elimination of waste products, speed healing after injury, and enhance recovery from disease.

Therapeutic massage can be used to promote general well-being and enhance self-esteem, while boosting the circulatory and immune systems to benefit blood pressure, circulation, muscle tone, digestion, and skin tone.

It has been incorporated into many health systems, and different massage techniques have been developed and integrated into various complementary therapies. Massage has many amazing physiological and psychological benefits as we have spoken about in our other sections and each session is tailored to meet each individual client’s requirements. Clients come for a wide variety of reasons and / or conditions but massage can also just be about relaxation. It is hugely popular and beneficial as a pre and post event massage as it relieves muscles of fatigue, soreness and stiffness.
